  • How to Use an Ozone Generator | MaxBlaster Ozone Guide

Learn how to use an ozone generator for odor removal, smoke damage, mold odors, and property treatments. Step-by-step guide, run time charts, safety tips, and manuals. How to Use an Ozone Generator Learn how to properly operate a MaxBlaster ozone generator for odor removal, vehicle treatments, mold remediation, and commercial applications. This guide includes step-by-step instructions, treatment run times, safety information, and technical references developed from over 20 years of real-world ozone applications. Quick Navigation Quick Start Treatment Preparation Machine Placement Run Time Guide Air Out Process Maintenance Safety Guidelines Manual Downloads Common Applications FAQs Quick Start Quick Start These five steps summarize the basic process for using an ozone generator. 1. Inspect the Machine Before starting a treatment, briefly run the machine to confirm it is operating normally. Air should be moving through the unit and you should hear a soft buzzing sound from the ozone generator plates. A noticeable ozone scent should also be present, and in low light you may see a faint purple glow between the plates. The machine should be kept reasonably clean and should not be operated if excessive dust or grime buildup is present inside the unit. 2. Prepare the Treatment Area For best results, remove the odor source whenever possible and dry any moisture in the area. Open cabinets, drawers, closets, and other enclosed spaces so ozone can circulate throughout the treatment area and reach all surfaces. Ensure the treatment space does not have excess moisture or humidity, as this can reduce the effectiveness of ozone treatments. Use fans or a dehumidifier if necessary. 3. Place the Machine Properly Position the machine around mid-height in the room, such as on a table or countertop, rather than directly on the floor. Ozone is slightly heavier than oxygen and tends to settle toward the lower areas of a room during a treatment. Elevating the machine helps ensure the intake side of the unit has access to a better supply of oxygen-rich air to feed the machine throughout the treatment. 4. Run the Treatment* Treatment time will vary depending on the size of the space, the severity of the odor, and the model of machine being used. Refer to the Run Time Guide below for general recommendations and examples of typical treatment durations. 5. Air Out the Space After the treatment is complete, allow ozone to naturally dissipate before re-entering the area. Opening windows or doors and using fans can help speed up the process and restore normal air conditions more quickly. Most ozone dissipates within the first couple of hours, although small amounts may linger for several hours depending on run time. *Keep the Area Unoccupied Ozone treatments should always be performed in unoccupied spaces. People and pets should remain outside the treatment area while the machine is operating. Breathing small amounts of ozone for a brief moment is generally not harmful for most people, but the higher concentrations used during odor removal treatments are not intended to be inhaled for extended periods. Always allow the space to air out properly before normal occupancy. Treatment Preparation Treatment Preparation Proper preparation greatly improves the effectiveness of ozone treatments. Because ozone works by contacting contaminated air and surfaces directly, preparing the space beforehand allows ozone to reach and neutralize odors more efficiently. Remove the Odor Source Ozone works best when the original odor source has been reduced or removed. For example, smoke residue, mold contamination, spoiled materials, and pet contamination should be cleaned or removed whenever possible before running a treatment. Ozone is extremely effective at destroying remaining odor molecules, but heavy contamination should always be addressed first. Dry the Environment Excess moisture can reduce the effectiveness of ozone treatments. If the space is damp or humid, allow surfaces to dry before running the machine. Fans, ventilation, or dehumidifiers can help improve conditions and allow ozone to work more efficiently. Expose Enclosed Areas Open cabinets, drawers, closets, and interior doors so ozone can circulate throughout the space. Ozone must physically reach surfaces in order to neutralize odors, so enclosed areas should be opened during treatment whenever possible. Use Air Circulation When Needed In larger rooms or buildings, fans can help distribute ozone more evenly throughout the treatment area. Gentle air movement helps ozone travel farther and improves the overall effectiveness of the treatment. Divide Large Spaces When Needed For very large spaces or severe odor situations, it may be helpful to divide the property into smaller treatment areas. Closing doors, isolating floors, or using temporary partitions such as plastic or drop cloths can reduce the treatment area size and allow ozone to reach higher concentrations more effectively. In larger properties, multiple machines may also be used in different sections at the same time. Machine Placement Machine Placement Proper placement of the ozone generator can significantly improve treatment effectiveness and help extend the life of the plate pack components. Ensure Good Air Intake The intake side of the machine should have access to clean, dry, oxygen-rich air throughout the treatment. Avoid placing the unit in tight corners, against walls, or in areas where airflow is restricted, as the machine needs a steady supply of fresh oxygen to operate efficiently. Elevate the Machine When Possible Placing the machine at countertop height or higher helps ensure the intake side of the unit continues pulling in a good supply of oxygen-rich air during the treatment. Ozone is slightly heavier than oxygen and tends to settle toward the lower areas of a room, so avoiding placement directly on the floor helps the intake draw from a better quality oxygen supply, especially during longer treatments. Vehicles & Confined Spaces For vehicles and confined spaces, the machine is typically placed outside the treatment area with a hose directing ozone into the cabin through a slightly open window or door. This allows the ozone generator to operate in fresh air while delivering ozone into the space being treated. Large Space Treatments In larger areas such as homes, basements, or commercial buildings, using fans can help move ozone throughout the space. For very large areas, multiple machines may be used to increase ozone concentration coverage. Run Time Chart Run Time Chart Treatment time depends on the size of the space, the severity of the odor, and the amount of ozone being produced. The chart below provides general run time guidelines based on typical treatment situations using MaxBlaster ozone generators. These examples are intended as a starting point, and actual treatment times may vary depending on conditions within the space. Mild odors may be removed with shorter treatments, while severe contamination may require longer run times or multiple treatment cycles. Larger properties may also benefit from dividing the space into smaller sections or using multiple machines so ozone can reach higher concentrations. Download Run Time Chart (PDF) Air Out Process Air Out Process After the treatment is complete, ozone must be allowed to dissipate before the space is occupied normally. Ozone naturally breaks down and returns to oxygen over time, but airing out the treatment area will help restore normal air conditions more quickly. Allow Ozone to Dissipate Most ozone will naturally break down within the first couple of hours after a treatment ends. In enclosed spaces where windows and doors remain closed, a small amount may linger longer before fully returning to normal air conditions. Vehicles For vehicle treatments, opening the doors and windows usually clears the interior quickly. Many operators simply air out the vehicle for several minutes or drive the vehicle with the windows down to restore fresh air conditions. Typical Air Out Time In most situations, the majority of ozone will dissipate within about two hours. Any remaining trace amounts will continue breaking down naturally and are typically gone within 12–24 hours. Maintenance Maintenance & Troubleshooting MaxBlaster ozone generators are designed for long service life when kept clean and operated in proper conditions. Basic care and occasional inspection will help maintain strong ozone output and reliable operation over time. Keep the Machine Clean The most important step in maintaining your MaxBlaster is keeping the inside of the machine clean, dry, and free of dust or debris. Always operate the unit where it can draw clean, dry air and avoid running it directly on the floor. Because ozone naturally settles lower in the room during treatment, positioning the machine higher in the space allows the intake to access a better supply of oxygen-rich air. Confirm Normal Operation When operating correctly, the machine should move air through the unit, produce a noticeable ozone scent, and emit a soft buzzing sound from the plate pack. In low light conditions you may also see a consistent purple glow between the plates, which indicates the corona discharge is functioning normally. Plate Pack Replacement The generator plate pack is the primary component responsible for ozone production and may require replacement after extended use. Replacement plate packs can be purchased through our shop and installed by the operator, or the machine can be sent to our service department for full inspection and service. Service & Support If the machine stops producing ozone or appears to be operating abnormally, discontinue use and inspect the unit. Additional troubleshooting guides and the MaxBlaster service request form are available on our Service Department page . Safety Guidelines Safety Guidelines Ozone generators produce high concentrations of ozone intended for odor removal and oxidation treatments. When used properly, these machines are safe and effective tools, but basic precautions should always be followed during operation. Operate in Unoccupied Spaces Ozone treatments should always be performed in unoccupied areas. People and pets should remain outside the treatment space while the machine is running. Avoid Over Exposure Ozone has a strong, noticeable scent. While brief exposure to small amounts is generally not harmful for most people, high concentrations used for treatments are not intended to be inhaled for extended periods. If You Are Exposed If you are exposed to high levels of ozone, the most common symptoms are mild irritation of the lungs, throat, or eyes. If this occurs, simply leave the treatment area and breathe fresh air. In most cases, any discomfort will pass quickly once you return to normal air conditions. Allow Proper Air Out Time After a treatment is complete, allow the space to air out and return to normal air conditions before occupying the area again. Use the MaxBlaster as Intended MaxBlaster ozone generators are designed for professional odor removal treatments in enclosed spaces. Always operate the machine in a stable location with proper airflow and follow the guidance provided in this instruction guide. Material Compatibility Ozone works by oxidizing organic compounds, which is how it removes odors and contaminants. Under normal treatment conditions, this does not cause damage to most materials. However, certain materials—such as natural rubber—can be affected by prolonged exposure to high concentrations of ozone. Running the machine significantly longer than recommended may begin to cause changes such as brittleness or surface tackiness. For additional guidance, request an ozone compatibility chart. Ozone Generator Comparisons Choosing the right ozone generator can be confusing. Many machines on the market look similar on the outside but perform very differently in real-world treatments. This page explains the key differences between ozone generator designs, how our machines compare to typical models on the market, and how to choose the right setup for any project. Quick Navigation 01 — Typical Machines 02 — MaxBlaster Machines 03 — Compare Models 04 — Multiple Machines 05 — Pro Packages Typical Machines How Most Ozone Generators Are Built Most ozone generators sold online use inexpensive transformer and ozone plate assemblies that can be purchased individually for under $15. These components are commonly imported and used across dozens of different brands. Manufacturers often stack several of these small assemblies inside a single machine to increase the advertised rating. The Components Behind Many Ozone Generators Ozone plates, transformers, fans, and blowers like these are widely available online overseas and often used to assemble relabeled ozone machines. These images show real product listings for components commonly used inside many ozone generators sold online today. Items like ozone plates, high-voltage transformers, fans, and blower housings can be purchased individually from overseas suppliers. Many machines are created by combining these inexpensive parts into a housing and marketing the result as a finished ozone generator. In some cases, multiple plate and transformer sets are simply mounted inside an existing fan or blower enclosure. Understanding what’s inside a machine is often the clearest way to see the difference between inexpensive ozone generators and equipment designed for serious commercial use. click images below to open in pop-up Many sellers simply combine inexpensive ozone plates and transformer assemblies with basic fans or blower housings, then market the finished product using manufacturer output claims. While this approach can produce ozone, it does not necessarily reflect the kind of component quality or craftsmanship used in professional equipment. MaxBlaster Machines The Components Inside a MaxBlaster Ozone Generator The performance and reliability of an ozone generator depends heavily on the quality of the components used inside the machine. At MaxBlaster, we focus on building machines with durable parts designed for real-world use rather than simply assembling inexpensive components into a box. Heavy-Duty Ozone Transformers The transformer is the heart of any ozone generator. Many machines use small imported transformer assemblies designed for inexpensive consumer devices. Our machines use larger, more robust transformers designed to deliver consistent output and long-term reliability during treatments. Commercial Ozone Plates Ozone plates determine how efficiently ozone is produced. MaxBlaster machines use 100% pure dielectric ozone plates, combined into 5-plate or 7-plate structures depending on the model. This design allows the machine to generate strong, consistent ozone output while maintaining stable performance during treatments. Airflow & Cooling Design Airflow plays an important role in ozone production and machine longevity. MaxBlaster generators are designed with dedicated fans and airflow paths that move air efficiently across the ozone plates while helping keep internal components cool. Proper airflow allows the machine to maintain stable ozone output during extended treatments. Serviceable, Long-Life Design MaxBlaster ozone generators are built with a straightforward, durable design intended for long-term professional use. The internal components are arranged for reliability, stable performance, and easy service if it is ever needed. This model is often used for heavy contamination or stationary industrial applications where maximum output is required. Because the machine operates at a higher intensity, it is typically best suited for experienced operators who are comfortable maintaining professional equipment over the long term. Multiple Machines Why Professionals Use Multiple Ozone Generators Ozone treatment success is determined largely by ozone concentration within the treatment space. While running a single machine for a long time can produce results, ozone naturally converts back into oxygen relatively quickly. Because of this, ozone levels eventually reach a concentration plateau when using only one machine. Professional operators focus on reaching higher ozone concentrations efficiently, rather than letting one machine run for days. One of the most effective ways to increase ozone concentration is by using multiple machines within the same space. When several machines operate together, they produce more ozone per hour while also distributing the ozone more evenly throughout the property. This allows operators to reach stronger ozone levels faster. Advantages of using multiple machines: • Higher ozone concentration levels • Greater ozone distribution capacity • Faster more effective treatments • Ability to treat multiple rooms/floors • Ability to offer pro treatment service Pro Packages Professional Multi-Machine Setups For customers performing serious ozone treatments, many operators start with a 3-machine configuration. This allows the machines to be placed in different areas of the property, increasing ozone concentration while improving distribution throughout the space. PRO 3-Pack VIEW IN SHOP Great Entry into Pro Treatments The PRO Commercial model offers the best overall balance of power, durability, and long-term reliability. For this reason, the PRO 3-Pack is the configuration we recommend to most customers beginning professional ozone treatments. Using three PRO machines together allows operators to increase ozone production while spreading the machines throughout the property for better distribution. This setup is commonly used by contractors, property managers, and service businesses who want to treat spaces of up to roughly 1,500 square feet like a professional in less than a day. PRO-G 3-Pack VIEW IN SHOP Great for High Performance Uses The PRO-G Industrial model delivers the highest ozone output in our lineup while maintaining the same durable construction and professional-grade components. For this reason, the PRO-G 3-Pack is often chosen by experienced operators who require maximum ozone production. Using three PRO-G machines together allows operators to generate extremely high ozone output while placing machines throughout the property for better distribution. This setup is commonly used for heavy contamination and industrial environments where very high ozone concentrations are required. PRO 6-Pack VIEW IN SHOP Great Way to Scale-Up Business The PRO Commercial model offers the best balance of power, durability, and long-term reliability in our lineup while maintaining the same durable construction and professional-grade components. For this reason, the PRO 6-Pack is often chosen by operators who want to significantly expand their treatment capacity. Using six PRO machines together allows users to dramatically increase ozone production while placing machines throughout the property for better distribution. For many operators, this is the point where ozone stops feeling like a trial and starts looking like a real business. The Bottom Line After comparing machines, components, and treatment strategies, one principle becomes clear: successful ozone treatments depend on reaching the right ozone concentration and distributing it properly across a space. This is why professionals focus not only on the machine they use, but also on how many machines they use and where they place them during a treatment. Whether you choose a single machine or build a multi-machine setup, the goal is always the same — generate enough ozone, distribute it effectively, and achieve success. That simple principle has guided the design of MaxBlaster ozone generators since 2006.

Whether you need to treat a warehouse, restaurant, barn, office, yacht, mansion, or any large open space, we can show you how to do the ozone treatment properly and tell you exactly which ozone generators to buy. Example: Restaurant Treatment Take for example our Mt. Fuji Restaurant Project. This 30,000sqft historic landmark restaurant was dealing with persistent odors and needed an immediate but also long term solution. We performed a series of ozone treatments to negate all existing odors. Then we left the owners with several of our MaxBlaster ozone machines and taught them how to perform ozone treatments on an on-going basis. The results were amazing and have continued for many years. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvVSuydjmfA Introduction MaxBlaster ozone generators are powerful tools used by owners of large properties to eliminate odors, destroy pathogens, and purify the air. In this article, we will explore how our ozone generators are providing effective solutions for a wide range of applications. The Power of Ozone Generators MaxBlaster ozone generators work by converting oxygen molecules (O2) into ozone (O3) through a corona discharge process. Ozone is an unstable gas that readily reacts with various pollutants and contaminants in the air, neutralizing them effectively. It acts as a natural air purifier, targeting and eliminating organic compounds, bacteria, viruses, mold, mildew, and unpleasant odors. Advantages of Ozone Generators Comprehensive Purification: Unlike air fresheners or filters, ozone generators provide comprehensive air purification. They pro-actively target and neutralize contaminants, eliminating odors at their source rather than merely masking them. Non-Toxic and Environmentally Friendly : Ozone is a natural molecule that quickly reverts back to oxygen after completing its oxidizing task. It leaves no harmful residues, making it safe for humans, animals, and the environment. However, caution must be exercised by ensuring the treatment space is unoccupied during the ozone applications process. Efficient and Time-Saving: Ozone treatment is a rapid and efficient process. It can quickly disinfect and deodorize large areas without the need for extensive manual cleaning or chemical treatments, saving both time and effort. Versatility: Ozone generators can be used in various settings and applications. They are highly adaptable and can be easily positioned in a variety of positions, heights, and directly into HVAC systems. Easy to Use: Using ozone generators may seem intimidating at first. But once you know a few key rules, you can apply them to just about any ozone project. Successfully treating large properties with ozone generators is relatively easy with the right equipment and advice. Types of Large Properties MaxBlaster ozone machines have been successfully used to disinfect and deodorize a wide range of large properties including: Restaurants, Warehouses, Churches, School Buildings, Fitness Centers, Theaters, Auditoriums, Event Venues, Indoor Sports Facilities, and Community Centers. Considerations While ozone generators offer numerous benefits for air treatment in large properties, it is essential to consider the following: Occupant Safety: Ozone can be harmful when inhaled in high concentrations. Therefore, it is mandatory to operate ozone generators in unoccupied spaces. Allow enough time for the ozone to naturally dissipate (wait 2 hours for every 1 hour that you ran the ozone machine) or speed up the airing out process by opening windows, doors, and using fans. Equipment Selection: To permanently kill odors and treat mold, virus, and toxins you need to reach "shock" levels of ozone concentration. For large properties, this will require the use of multiple ozone machines. However, if your goal is simply to minimize or control mild odors you do not need to reach such high levels of ozone concentration. Talk with us prior to purchasing for a custom recommendation based on area size, degree of odor, occupancy times, and the speed in which you need to get the project done. No Excess Moisture/Humidity: The treatment area should be completely dry prior to running the ozone machine(s). If necessary, use a dehumidifier prior to the ozone application process. High humidity will render the ozone treatment less effective and may impact the long term maintenance frequency for the ozone machine. Ozone Machine Placement: Place the ozone machines in a central location and in a manner that the ozone gas will fill up the treatment space evenly. Place the machine as high as possible. Ozone is heavier than oxygen and tends to go downwards. If you are treating a property with high ceilings, use fans to help pull/push ozone towards the ceiling. Never run an ozone machine on the floor. Treatment Times: Treatment times vary based on area size, degree of odor, and the amount of ozone you are generating. Our philosophy is to use enough ozone machines to reach "shock" levels quickly and then allow the ozone application process to continue for several hours. Contact us for custom recommendations for your specific project. Recommendations For large properties we recommend our PRO or PRO-G ozone generator quantity packs. Choose the PRO quantity packs for applications where you will be frequently traveling with and/or moving the machines to various locations. Choose the PRO-G quanity packs if you will be using the machines primarily from the same location. Depending on the size of the treatment area, the degree of odor, and the speed at which you need to complete the project, it can take several ozone machines to do the job successfully and efficiently. Contact us for a custom recommendation for your specific project. Summary MaxBlaster ozone generators are a proven solution for treating large properties, providing efficient and effective air purification. From restaurants and warehouses to schools and churches, our ozone machines offer a comprehensive approach to neutralizing odors, destroying pathogens, and improving indoor air quality. The goal is to generate enough ozone within the space so the gas can build to levels strong enough to penetrate materials where odors or contamination are present. Because ozone naturally breaks down into oxygen over time, maintaining that concentration level is what makes the treatment effective. For very large spaces, professionals often run multiple ozone generators at the same time or divide the property into sections. With the right equipment and proper setup, even extremely large properties can be treated successfully using ozone technology. How do you generate enough ozone to treat a very large property? The key is reaching the proper ozone concentration within the treatment area. One common approach is dividing a large property into smaller sections and treating them individually. When the space is reduced, it becomes much easier to build higher ozone concentration levels, allowing the gas to penetrate deeper into materials where odors or contamination may exist. This can often be done room by room or by using temporary plastic partitions to isolate specific areas during treatment. If the property cannot be divided and the area is one large open space, the solution is simply to scale the ozone output. Professionals often do this by running multiple ozone generators at the same time and spreading them throughout the property. This increases total ozone production and also helps distribute the ozone more evenly across the entire treatment area. How long does an ozone treatment usually take for a large building? Large-property ozone treatments can run for many hours and sometimes even 24 hours or longer depending on the level of treatment you are trying to achieve. In some cases, a single powerful ozone generator may allow you to smell ozone throughout a large building and lightly freshen the air. However, that type of light treatment is very different from reaching the higher concentrations needed for deeper odor destruction or true disinfection. When the goal is to address heavier contamination such as mold, bacteria, or other organic odors, significantly higher ozone concentrations are required. Professionals usually achieve this by increasing treatment time, running multiple ozone generators at once, or combining both methods. Longer runtimes and higher total ozone output allow the gas to penetrate deeper into materials where odors and contaminants are embedded. What types of odors can ozone remove in large commercial spaces? Ozone generators are very effective at removing many types of organic-based odors commonly found in large buildings. This includes smoke odors, cooking odors, mold and mildew smells, pet odors, and the musty odors that often develop in older properties. Because ozone works through oxidation, it breaks apart odor molecules at their source rather than simply masking the smell with fragrance or chemicals. When used properly and at high enough concentrations, ozone can penetrate deep into materials such as drywall, wood, fabrics, and carpeting where odors often hide. This is why ozone is widely used by restoration professionals and property managers when dealing with difficult odor problems. In addition to odor removal, high-concentration ozone treatments are also commonly used to help disinfect spaces and assist in certain mold remediation situations. Is it safe to use ozone generators in restaurants, churches, or office buildings? Yes — ozone generators are commonly used to treat restaurants, churches, offices, and many other types of commercial buildings. The most important rule is that the space should remain unoccupied while the treatment is running. Ozone works best when it is allowed to build to higher concentrations without people or animals present in the treatment area. If someone briefly enters an ozoned space for a minute or two, most people will simply notice the strong, bleach-like smell and step back out. However, higher concentrations should not be breathed for extended periods of time. After a treatment is complete, most of the ozone naturally breaks down and dissipates within a couple of hours. Even so, it’s still a good practice to ventilate the space and allow fresh air circulation before fully reoccupying the area. How do you determine what ozone equipment is needed for a large property? It depends on the size of the property, the severity of the odor problem, and how quickly you want the treatment completed. In many situations, large buildings require a combination of ozone output and thoughtful machine placement throughout the space in order to reach effective concentration levels. The goal is to allow the ozone to spread evenly so it can penetrate the materials where odors or contamination are present. When customers contact us, we usually ask a few quick questions about the property and what they are dealing with. From there we can recommend the right MaxBlaster setup for the job. Sometimes that means a single machine, and other times it involves running multiple units together to build the ozone levels needed for a successful treatment. BACK TO TOP

In this article, we will explore the various benefits of our ozone generators, the odors they can eliminate, how to use them, and their value for buyers and sellers of real estate. Understanding Ozone Generators MaxBlaster ozone generators produce extremely high levels of ozone gas using a process known as corona discharge. Ozone, composed of three oxygen atoms (O3), is a powerful oxidizing agent that reacts with pollutants, eliminating them and neutralizing odors in the process. The overall goal is flood the treatment area with an overabundance of ozone gas in what is known as "shock" ozone treatment. The result is a totally neutral environment. No chemicals and no residue. Ozone generators do not mask odors and toxins. Rather they eliminate odors permanently at the molecular level. Eliminating Odors One of the primary benefits of MaxBlaster ozone generators is their ability to eliminate a wide range of odors. Our machines effectively neutralize unpleasant smells caused by smoke, pets, mold, mildew, cooking, and more. Ozone molecules break down and destroy odor-causing molecules at their source, leaving the air fresh and odor-free. Unlike air fresheners or scented candles that mask odors temporarily, ozone generators tackle the problem at its root, resulting in a long-lasting effect. Types of Odors MaxBlaster ozone generators are extremely effective at eliminating a long list of organic odors including: kitchen odors, cooking odors, garage odors, smoke odors, pet odors, foyer odors, basement odors, crawl space odors, bathroom odors, and attic odors. Ozone can successfully treat any organic based odor with proper protocol. Benefits of Ozone Generators Odor Elimination: Ozone generators not only mask odors but eliminate them entirely, providing a truly clean and fresh indoor environment. Sanitization: Ozone is a powerful disinfectant that kills bacteria, viruses, and fungi. It can effectively neutralize airborne pathogens and reduce the risk of infections and allergies. Mold and Mildew: Ozone generators inhibit the growth of mold and mildew by neutralizing spores in the air and on surfaces. This can promote healthier indoor air quality and greatly effect the value of property. Using Ozone Generators While ozone generators offer significant benefits, it is important to use them properly and with caution: Quick Tips: To reach the highest ozone concentrations possible, you may want to divide the home into multiple sections and treat each section individually. Make sure that everything is dry. No wet/damp floors, carpets, or excess humidity. If necessary, use a dehumidifer prior to operating the ozone machine. Instruction Guide: Read and understand the Run Time Chart and instruction guide before operating our ozone generators. Our ozone generators should only be operated in unoccupied spaces. Unoccupied Spaces Only: When using an ozone generator remove all people, pets, and valuable plants during the application process. Allow the space to air out before reoccupying. Enhancing Real Estate Value MaxBlaster ozone generators can be an invaluable tool for both buyers and sellers of real estate: Sellers: Using an ozone generator before putting a property on the market can eliminate any lingering odors, making the home more appealing to potential buyers. Fresh, clean air can create a positive first impression and contribute to a faster sale. Buyers: When purchasing a new property, an ozone generator can help ensure a clean and odor-free environment. It allows buyers to eliminate any unwanted smells and create a fresh space that aligns with their preferences. Do ozone generators really work for removing odors from a house? Yes. Over the past twenty years we’ve seen ozone treatments used in tens of thousands of homes and properties with extremely consistent results. The key factor is reaching ozone concentrations high enough to fully penetrate the space being treated. When that happens, ozone becomes very effective at breaking apart the molecules that cause many common household odors. In real-world use, this includes odors from smoke, pets, mold, mildew, cooking, and other organic contamination that can linger in a property. Because ozone works through oxidation, it destroys odor molecules rather than simply masking them with fragrance. In our experience, when proper ozone levels are reached and the treatment is allowed to run long enough, it becomes very difficult for those types of odors to survive the process. What types of odors can ozone generators remove in a home? Ozone is most effective at removing organic-based odors. Common examples include cigarette and cigar smoke, pet urine and animal odors, mold and mildew smells, cooking odors, fire and smoke damage, and the musty smell that often develops in basements or homes that have been closed up for long periods of time. These types of odors are usually caused by organic compounds that ozone can break apart through oxidation. Because ozone circulates through the air as a gas, it is able to move throughout the entire treatment space and penetrate porous materials where odors often hide. This includes things like carpet, furniture, fabrics, drywall, and even parts of HVAC systems. That ability to reach deep into materials is one reason ozone treatments are often successful when normal cleaning methods don’t fully remove the odor source. Is it safe to use an ozone generator in a home? Ozone generators should always be used in unoccupied spaces while the treatment is taking place. People and pets should leave the area while the machine is running, and the space should be aired out before normal occupancy resumes. This basic rule allows ozone to build to effective levels while keeping the process safe and predictable. In over twenty years of selling ozone generators, we’ve seen very few safety incidents reported to us — only two that we’re aware of — and both involved clear cases of improper use where a machine was left running far longer than intended. When used with basic common sense and normal treatment practices, MaxBlaster ozone generators have been used safely in tens of thousands of homes, vehicles, and commercial properties over the past two decades. Can ozone generators help with mold odors in a home? Yes. Ozone generators are commonly used during mold remediation and deep sanitation treatments because they can help destroy mold spores and remove the musty odors associated with microbial growth. In many cases, the smell people associate with mold can linger long after the original moisture problem has already been corrected. This is because odor compounds can remain trapped in building materials and furnishings. Ozone treatments are often used as a final step to help neutralize these remaining odors and restore a fresher indoor environment. Because ozone moves through the air and penetrates porous materials, it can reach areas that are difficult to clean directly. For best results, ozone treatments should always be combined with proper cleaning and fixing the underlying moisture issue that allowed mold to develop in the first place. How large of a home can an ozone generator treat? The size of the area that can be treated ultimately comes down to how much ozone is being produced within the environment. The goal is to build a high enough concentration of ozone in the air so it can fully penetrate the materials where odors are present. Because ozone naturally breaks back down into oxygen fairly quickly, treatments often become a race to build and maintain strong concentration levels long enough for the process to work effectively. This is why many professionals scale their operation by running multiple ozone generators at the same time when treating larger spaces. In simple terms, almost any size home or property can be treated with ozone when the right equipment is used. Larger projects are usually handled by increasing the total ozone output or by dividing the property into smaller sections and treating each area individually. How long does ozone stay in a home after a treatment? Ozone naturally breaks back down into oxygen over time, which means it does not remain in the environment permanently. Once a treatment is complete and the machine is turned off, ozone levels begin dropping right away as the gas converts back into normal oxygen. This natural breakdown is one reason ozone can be useful for odor removal and sanitation treatments. In many situations, most of the ozone dissipates within the first couple of hours after a treatment ends. However, depending on the size of the space and the strength of the treatment performed, small residual amounts can sometimes linger longer. For this reason, ozone treatments are typically performed while the space is unoccupied, and the area is usually allowed to air out for several hours before normal use resumes. BACK TO TOP

Contact us if you are among those people who have hyper-sensitivities to mold and mycotoxins. We will help outline a plan for you on how to use our ozone generators in the most effective manner. Introduction Mold growth and mycotoxins are one of the most significant problems that can wreak havoc on homes, basements, apparel, vehicles, and indoor environments. While traditional methods of mold remediation often involve chemicals or costly professional services, MaxBlaster ozone generators offer an cost-effective, organic solution to combat mold and mycotoxins. In this article, we will explore how MaxBlaster ozone generators work, their effectiveness, and important considerations when using them to address mold and mycotoxin issues. Understanding Mold and Mycotoxins Mold is a type of fungi that thrives in damp, dark, and poorly ventilated areas. When mold spores find favorable conditions, they can rapidly multiply and release mycotoxins, which are harmful substances that can lead to various health problems when inhaled or ingested by humans or animals. Common symptoms of mold exposure include respiratory issues, allergies, skin irritation, and even neurological problems in severe cases. The Role of Ozone Generators MaxBlaster ozone generators are devices designed to generate and release ozone (O3) gas into the environment. Ozone is a naturally occurring gas consisting of three oxygen atoms. It is a powerful oxidizing agent that effectively eliminates odors, kills bacteria, viruses, and fungi, and neutralizes mycotoxins. Ozone's high reactivity enables it to break down organic compounds, including mold spores and mycotoxins, by oxidizing their cell walls. The overall goal of an ozone treatment for mold is to flood the treatment area with an extremely high concentration of ozone gas. This process is often referred to as "shock" ozone treatment. Effectiveness of Ozone Generators Against Mold and Mycotoxins MaxBlaster ozone generators are highly effective in eradicating mold and mycotoxins when used correctly. Ozone gas has the ability to penetrate various surfaces, including fabrics, carpets, and wall cavities, reaching hidden mold spores and mycotoxins that may be difficult to eliminate using traditional cleaning methods alone. When ozone comes into contact with mold spores and mycotoxins, it initiates a molecular reaction that breaks down their cellular structure. This process not only eliminates existing mold and mycotoxins but also inhibits further growth. However, it's important to note that ozone cannot penetrate solid materials such as wood or concrete, so it may not be effective in situations where mold has deeply infiltrated such materials. Considerations when Using Ozone Generators While ozone generators can be highly effective in mold and mycotoxin remediation, caution must be exercised to ensure safe and proper usage: Occupancy and safety: Ozone is a powerful gas and can be harmful when inhaled in high concentrations. Therefore, it is important to vacate the treated area during ozone treatment and allow time for the gas to dissipate after the process. Timing and duration: The duration of ozone treatment depends on the severity of the mold infestation and the size of the treatment area. Follow the MaxBlaster Run Time Chart for estimated treatment times. Typical treatment times range from several hours to a couple of days for larger properties. You can speed up the process by using multiple ozone machines spread out across the entire property at the same time. Additional mold remediation: Ozone generators should be used as part of a comprehensive mold remediation plan that includes identifying and fixing the source of moisture that caused the mold growth. Treating the symptoms without addressing the underlying cause is unlikely to provide a long-term solution. Recommendations The MaxBlaster PRO ozone generator is recommended as the starting point for any ozone project related to mold and mycotoxin removal. Divide the treatment area into multiple smaller sections and treat each section individually to allow the ozone gas to reach the absolute highest concentrations. For commercial treatments, using multiple ozone machines spread out across a property at the same time has multiple advantages: faster treatments, higher ozone concentrations, and more efficient distribution of ozone gas across larger spaces Summary MaxBlaster ozone generators offer a powerful and efficient solution for tackling mold and mycotoxin issues. By harnessing the oxidizing properties of ozone gas, these devices can effectively eliminate mold spores and neutralize mycotoxins, helping to restore a healthy indoor environment. However, it is essential to exercise caution and follow proper usage guidelines to ensure the safety and effectiveness of ozone treatments. Consulting with professionals in mold remediation can provide valuable guidance on utilizing ozone generators as part of a comprehensive mold mitigation strategy. Contact Us Max Blaster LLC Ask for Greg CALL 800-575-1787 EMAIL maxblaster@outlook.com Professional Ozone Knowledge Real customer questions and answers based on over 20 years of real-world ozone treatment experience. Can ozone be used to treat mold contamination in a building? Ozone can be used as part of a broader mold remediation strategy, but it should never be viewed as a complete solution by itself. Mold contamination often involves both the living mold colonies and the microscopic particles and byproducts they release into the environment. Proper remediation usually begins with identifying and correcting the moisture source, removing heavily contaminated materials, and physically cleaning affected surfaces. Once those steps have been completed, ozone may be used to help treat remaining odors and microbial contamination within the space. Because ozone is a gas, it can circulate through the air and penetrate into porous materials and hidden areas that may be difficult to reach with surface cleaning alone. However, it is important to understand that ozone works best when used as one component of a thorough remediation process rather than as a substitute for proper mold removal. How are ozone generators typically used during mold remediation? Ozone treatments are generally performed after the primary remediation work has been completed. This typically includes removing damaged materials, cleaning contaminated surfaces, and correcting the moisture conditions that allowed the mold to grow in the first place. Once the structure has been properly cleaned and dried, ozone generators may be used to treat the air and surrounding materials within the affected area. Because mold contamination can spread throughout a structure, treatments often involve running multiple machines at the same time to achieve effective ozone concentrations across the entire treatment space. The goal is to allow ozone gas to circulate through the building and reach areas that may still contain residual contamination. After the treatment cycle is finished, the space is aired out and the ozone naturally breaks back down into normal oxygen. How are ozone generators used by people sensitive to mold or mycotoxins? Some people who have developed strong sensitivities to mold or mycotoxins use ozone generators as one tool to help manage their environment after proper remediation has been completed. These individuals are often extremely sensitive to even very small amounts of contamination remaining in a home or building. In those situations, ozone treatments may be used periodically to help oxidize residual organic contamination and odors that can remain in porous materials or hidden areas of a structure. Because meaningful treatments typically require higher ozone concentrations, it is not uncommon for multiple machines to be used together when treating an entire home. The goal is to allow ozone gas to circulate throughout the building so it can reach areas that traditional cleaning methods may miss. While ozone is not a replacement for proper mold remediation, many customers report that these treatments can be a helpful part of maintaining a cleaner indoor environment. Do ozone treatments require high concentrations to be effective against mold? Yes. For ozone to have a meaningful impact on mold-related contamination, the concentration of ozone in the treatment area must reach sufficiently high levels. Lower concentrations may help with mild odors but are often not strong enough to affect more serious contamination. In real-world situations this sometimes means running several ozone generators simultaneously in order to treat a large home or building properly. The goal is to allow the gas to circulate throughout the entire structure so that it can reach enclosed spaces, porous materials, and hidden areas where contamination may remain. Because of this, larger mold remediation projects often require more powerful equipment or multiple machines working together to achieve the necessary ozone levels. Does the building need to be dry before ozone treatment? Yes. Moisture control is one of the most important factors in any mold remediation project. The building must first be dried and the underlying moisture problem corrected before ozone treatments are considered. Humidity and damp materials can interfere with ozone’s effectiveness because the gas tends to react with moisture in the air rather than focusing on microbial contamination. This is why ozone treatments are typically performed only after drying equipment and remediation work have already been completed. Once the space is properly dry and the primary mold contamination has been addressed, ozone can be introduced to help treat remaining odors or airborne contamination that may still linger within the structure. Is ozone safe to run in areas where people are present? No. Ozone treatments should always be performed in unoccupied spaces. Because the concentrations required for mold-related treatments are often quite high, people and pets should not remain in the treatment area while ozone generators are operating. Once the treatment cycle is finished, the area should be ventilated so the ozone can dissipate before re-entry. Ozone naturally breaks down into oxygen over time, and airing out the space helps speed that process. Following these basic precautions helps ensure that ozone treatments are conducted safely while still allowing the gas to reach the concentrations necessary to be effective. BACK TO TOP
